Newport's Sean Mcgoldrick will enter Glasgow 2014 as the reigning champion after being awarded the gold medal from the Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games.

Mcgoldrick lost to Manju Wanniarachchi of Sri Lanka in the final and was initially awarded the silver medal but was promoted to gold after his opponent failed a drugs test taken during the competition. The then 18 year-old was retrospectively presented with his gold medal by the CGF at a ceremony in Cardiff shortly after the Games.

The former Duffryn Comprehensive School pupil was named BBC Wales Junior Sportsman of the Year in 2010 and joined the GB Boxing Development squad in the same year. He was promoted to the Podium squad in April 2013.

Now 23, Sean enjoyed a successful debut season with the British Lionhearts in 2012-13, boxing in all of the away fixtures and being the team's most successful boxer on-the-road winning three of his five bouts.

Mcgoldrick was the WABA Youth Champion in 2006 and again in 2009 before claiming a silver medal at the GB Championships in the same year.

McGoldrick represented Wales at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, 2014, winning a bronze medal.
