Rhythmic Gymnastics

Biography

Nikara, a fluent Welsh speaker, is a former pupil of Ysgol Gymraeg Dewi Sant and Ysgol Gyfun Y Strade in Llanelli.

Her greatest achievement to date, she says, is winning a hat-trick of British titles and representing Wales at international level.

She first got involved in gymnastics when her Mum took her to artistic gymnastics classes which she attended for two years.

But she started to lose interest and a coach suggested she would make a good rhythmic gymnast as she was so flexible. She attended a session at Llanelli RGA where the coaches immediately recognised.

Nikara says: "I've had so many amazing opportunities being part of Welsh gymnastics. Rhythmic gymnastics is my life!"

Llanelli's Nikara Jenkins has won a silver medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games. The Ysgol y Strade pupil was part of the Wales team who finished second in the rhythmic gymnastics.
